Procedures
Visually inspect to be sure hazard is properly protected, systems are in service, stock and/or storage is properly stored below sprinkler piping or heads and to be sure building is properly heated and protected against cold air drafts.
CONTROL VALVES

Visually inspect and exercise main control valves to be sure they are open and functional, check all other valves for proper position, condition and to be sure they are sealed, locked or supervised.

Tag all control valves indicating the date of the inspection, name of firm and person performing inspection.
- Perform 2" main drain test and record results.
- Locate and flow Inspectors Test or "End Of Line" and record results.

Check FDC for condition and all required elements. (Size, Type, Caps)
- Check alarm valves and record number, make, model, and year.
- Check water flow switches for condition.
- Check condition of dry pipe valve.
- Check air pressure and priming water level.
- Check air compressor. (if applicable)
- Check and drain all low points.
- Check quick opening devices. (if applicable)
- Check piping for proper pitch.
- Trip test dry pipe valves and record results.
- Check dry pipe valves for adequate protection from freezing.
- Briefly ring alarms.
- Check condition and age of sprinkler heads.
- Check condition of piping, drain valves, check valves, hangers, gauges, and strainers.
- Check condition of hoses to see if they are racked properly, and if the proper footage for the area is covered.
- Check and tag each hose cabinet, hand wheels of all shutoff valves, water tank lines, etc.
- Check all components of the system to be sure they are in operable condition.
- Check hose outlets and Siamese connections conforming to fire department requirements.
- Tag each shutoff valve.
- Check automatic and manual operation of fire pump.
- Perform flow tests: Churn Test (0% flow), Rated Load Test (100% flow) and Peak Load Test (150% flow).
- Check circulation relief valve for operation to discharge water.
- Check pressure relief (if installed) for proper operation.
- Record simultaneous readings of pump suction and discharge pressures and pump discharge flow.
- Observe operation of any alarm indicators or any visible abnormalities.
- Check packing gland to ensure proper lubrication of drive shaft.
- Take a representative sample and test with a hydrometer for an accurate measure of the solution.
Upon completion of the testing and inspection, each system will be tagged. Barring any deficiencies, a report will be submitted to the owner/tenant/manager.
